Joe’s Hick’ry Smoked Barbecue Sauce
A tasty homemade BBQ sauce that is great on chicken, ribs or whatever you like BBQ sauce on.

Ingredients
1 large onion – diced
16 oz (500 ml) tomato puree or finely diced tomatoes in puree
1 cup brown sugar
½ cup white vinegar
2 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons Mexican chilli powder or Mexicana
2 tsp salt
½ tsp dry mustard powder
2 tsp liquid smoke
Method
Step 1 -In a saucepan over medium heat, heat 2 tsp of oil. Add onion and cook for about 5 minutes until softened.
Step 2 – Add remaining ingredients, bring to a boil, then simmer until sauce has thickened a bit, about 45 minutes.
Step 3 – Use immediately, or store in the refrigerator.
